Making your own inks

It occurred to me: why can't I? Since no one answered, I got to it.

Spray bottles aren't as cheap as I wanted them to be. I started out wanting to find them at Dollar Tree, but I got nothing. So I got some from the Walmart travel sized beauty section. Not the best idea. The nozzle tends to break easy, and at the same price ($1) I found some at hobby lobby. You can see the. Okie through them, and so far they have lasted with all the weird stuff I have mixed/sprayed with them.

Anything goes.
Things I have used:
Easter egg dye tabs
Food coloring
India ink
Acrylic ink
Tim Holtz alcohol inks
Fabric dye

All of these mix well with both water and alcohol, depending on what you want when it lands on paper. Alcohol makes the ink separate and soak into the paper quickly, and water makes for a more watercolor wet spray.

Acrylic inks squirt thick and land heavy. Great for the splatter effect.

India inks are transparent, they don't mix/bleed once dry.

Fabric dye, food coloring, and Easter dye, all spray like a typical spray ink. Less water/alcohol..more color. Love having the liberty of making my own colors, though I'll never stop buying "designer" spray inks. All time favorites?

another storm to compare to other storms

Hitting at a Cat 1, passing over as a super slow moving Tropical Storm, Isaac put some serious damage on Louisiana.

I love bad weather. And Hurricanes are my favorite --so much mystery. As I get older, I learn that is why old people don't like hurricanes at all--you don't know what is going to happen until it gets here. Will our levees hold? Will that tree bust through my roof? How much will the water rise? You never know.

It was just Ez and I. I was so surprised at how he understood he couldn't run out and play in it. That we needed to watch. From a distance. Under the carport. (I'm a rebel.)
Play.

Eat.

Chill.

Hope.

Remember.
